The Blaise Black Memorial Ropings and Barrel Race have been moved to the weekend of October 11 & 12, 2008.   This year’s event will feature something for everyone: ropings for high school age competitors, breakaway and ribbon ropers as well as a tie down roping and barrel racing.  Also included will be the popular silent auction.  Schedule of events and entry information will be in the next issue of Horse Sports.

This has been an exciting year for the Blaise Black Foundation.  Due to the support of sponsors and participants of last years’ event, the foundation raised over $15,000 for scholarships for post secondary study by members of our rodeo community in the Northwest.  The board had the honor of awarding $7,700 of that amount to 17 impressive applicants this May.  The rest of the money is going towards an endowment fund to continue to support the education of students in the years to come.  Recipients of the scholarships include an impressive group of students in our community: from those studying to be veterinarians (one will finish her doctoral studies this year) to civil engineers to teachers to entrepreneurial welders.  Equally impressive are the references and grade points from past study. The rodeo community deserves to be proud of producing and supporting such talent. 

The Blaise Black Foundation, including the members of the board, the applicants and recipients of the scholarships, and family members of Blaise, appreciate the contribution of all supporters to the success of the foundation.  Please keep in mind that donations can be accepted and awarded in the name of your loved ones through the Foundation. Included in this year’s awards were scholarships given in the name of Daniel Dopps and Walter Parke. The Foundation hopes to add to the list of memorial scholarships as well as add to the scholarship fund through the memorial roping event.
